System Studies Incorporated offers a variety of instructional courses from cable pressurization maintenance to computerized dispatching and management. These
classes, described below, address the unique training requirements of most operating companies.
For our BellSouth customers, course descriptions and course numbers are provided in PDF format for the following on-site classes:
Cable Pressurization: Basics to PressureMAP5-Day Instruction
This new Basics to PressureMAP class includes an overview of cable pressurization fundamentals, system anatomy, and engineering
requirements. The overview is followed by an in-depth explanation of PressureMAP and how it is best used to improve cable
pressurization system maintenance and management. The emphasis of the class is on:
- Basic leak locating
- Modern leak locating techniques
- Standard air pressure design
- Air flow analysis
- Data preparation and input
- The functions and operation of PressureMAP, AlarmMAP, ReportMAP, and CableMAP
- Task Dispatching
The final 11/2 days of this Basics to PressureMAP instruction will be customized for those who work
in the CPAMS or PressureMAP Analysis Centers.
Cable Pressurization Advanced Leak Locating2-Day Instruction
This applications-oriented class examines the principles and components that comprise the latest leak locating techniques developed by System Studies Incorporated.
The course is designed to:
- Be responsive to individual interests
- Stress performance and decision making
- Offer solutions to difficult leak locating problems
Advanced Leak Locating is recommended for those who have successfully completed the Theory and Practice course.
Cable Pressurization Engineering2-Day Instruction
The Cable Pressurization Engineering class presents the criteria and procedures for designing air pressure systems. Complete design criteria are provided for:
- Exchange cables
- Trunk and toll cables
- Single feed systems
- Air pipe systems
- Flow Bank systems
Every design area and responsibility including the preparation and distribution of engineering documentation is identified and discussed. This course should
be attended by anyone involved in system design and the issuing of air pressure work orders.
2Day Regional 289H LSS Team Training
This hands-on instructional seminar will thoroughly familiarize telephone company personnel and vendors with all aspects of 289H LSS monitoring—from installation,
existing monitor conversion, and compliance testing to PressureMAP/289H LSS data entry requirements and diagnostics testing. At the conclusion of the training, you
will have a working 289H LSS office, a practical strategy for future office conversions, and in-depth understanding of the powerful 289H Diagnostics program. An
additional day(s) may be required for offices with more than 100 devices. This on-site training includes the following:
- Our team works with your technicians and/or outside plant vendors to complete a 289H installation and/or conversion. The PressureMAP Staff is urged to attend.
- Utilizing laptop computers, personnel are shown how to convert Chatlos, Sparton, Hercules, and other monitoring system data for use within PressureMAP.
- This phase of instruction explains methods of printing out the documentation and data necessary to convert the office.
- The training team demonstrates, assists and observes technicians in using cutover worksheets to actually install and convert working transducers to the 289H
LSS.
- After the 289H LSS installation and cutover has been completed, our instructors will demonstrate the use of the 289H Diagnostics program to test air dryer
monitoring reliability and verify that all devices are reading properly.
- Further instruction is provided on using the 289H Diagnostics program to perform pair analysis and troubleshooting on field devices—including realtime
readings and capacitance, leakage and AC/DC testing.
This hands-on instructional seminar is designed for telco personnel who are responsible for the installation, maintenance and/or administration of Cable Pressurization
Automated Monitoring System (CPAMS) monitors, and for air pressure technicians responsible for maintaining pressurized cable systems.
Cable Pressurization Buffering1/2-Day Instruction
The Cable Pressurization Buffering class explains in detail the various buffering practices that are used to protect the integrity of the pressurized cable network during
scheduled splice and sheath openings. The course describes:
- Required buffering tools
- Buffering procedures for specific locations in single feed and dual feed pneumatic sections
- Mandatory safety precautions
The Buffering course is recommended for cable splicers, maintenance supervisors and pressurization engineers.
12 Day Regional Cable Pressurization Instruction and 12 Day Field Instruction
This cable pressurization leak locating course begins with an explanation of the basics of cable pressure and the anatomy of a pressurized cable system, followed by
field instruction. This class can be structured to include one or two days of classroom instruction, and one or two days of field instruction, depending on student
needs (price may vary according to the course structure requested). Course topics include:
- Pressure and flow relationships
- Standard air pressure design
- Modern leak locating techniques
- Air flow analysis
- List of recommendations or field report, to be given to attendees after the field session
This maintenance and repair course is recommended for those who are new to cable pressurization, or for those wishing to refine leak locating skills.
