Robert A. Simpkins. Co-founder of System Studies Inc.

Graduate of San Jose State University, with a B.S. Degree in Industrial Design.

Mr. Simpkins has accumulated over 30 years of progressive experience in cable pressurization, the last 27 with System Studies Incorporated. He has played a central role in the development and writing of several engineering guidelines and has also been the driving force behind the development and evolution of the PressureMAP software. As President of Operations, he is currently responsible for the management of System Studies. On occasion, he teaches Cable Pressurization Engineering and PressureMAP Operations classes.

Prior to founding System Studies Incorporated, Mr. Simpkins was Product Manager for a small air pressure-related company where he co-developed the first flow transducer for telephone use and numerous other pressurization-related products.

Graduate of Stanford University at Palo Alto, California, with a B.A. Degree in Economics.

Mr. Simpkins draws from more than 30 years of cable pressurization experience to provide the background and expertise for the development of many innovative products and pressurization system enhancements. Among the most recent are the new Digital Display Panels, 0911 Emergency Air Dryer, uM260 Micro Monitor, Steam Monitoring System Design, Positive Air Flow System, and Power Pipe (one-inch air pipe) System. With emphasis on the maintenance and management side of cable pressurization, Mr. Simpkins is responsible for bringing System Studies' Cable Pressurization Management and Maintenance classes to more than seven thousand management and craft personnel nationwide.

Prior to the formation of System Studies Incorporated, Mr. Simpkins was Marketing Manager for an equipment manufacturing company and co-developer of the first flow transducer for telephone use.



Cindy Sleeper, Customer Support

Ms. Sleeper oversees the Customer Support Department, which handles the proactive side of air pressure. This includes working as an instructor for System Studies, helping customers directly with PressureMAP systems throughout the world, and serving as project manager for several field trials and large turnkey projects. She also assists with testing and troubleshooting new and upcoming products.

Ms. Sleeper has created several classes for System Studies, including the 289H LSS training class. She particularly enjoys suitcasing classes, working with the crew and managers to utilize PressureMAP to the fullest extent.

Gus Ballas, Senior Field Engineer, Instructor

Mr. Ballas has been with System Studies Incorporated since 1987, serving for years as a key member of our field verification crew and later as supervisor of System Studies' two installation crews. As a Senior Field Engineer and Instructor for System Studies, Gus now devotes part of his busy schedule to training BellSouth, Qwest Communications and Verizon Northwest and Southeast personnel in System Studies' Cable Pressurization Theory & Practice, Leak Locating, Task Dispatching and Buffering courses.

With his extensive experience in the many aspects of cable pressurization (system design, installation, leak locating, and buffering), Gus provides solution-based instruction customized to the specific needs of his class participants.



Arthur Carmody, Senior Field Engineer, Instructor

Mr. Carmody joined System Studies Incorporated in 1993 after more than 23 years service with New England Telephone, the last six years serving as air pressure manager for the Worcester District of Massachusetts. Arthur now supports System Studies' customer base in Verizon Northeast, AT&T East, Rochester Telephone and parts of Bell Canada. In the past few years, Art has conducted training courses in Cable Pressurization Theory and Practice, Leak Locating, Engineering and PressureMAP Task Dispatching.

His vast experience in cable pressurization as well as his expertise with System Studies' PressureMAP software, 289H LSS monitors and Universal Stand-Alone Modules (USAMs) more than qualify him as an instructor with System Studies Incorporated. Like our other instructors, Mr. Carmody provides training at telco-specified locations in his area of operation.



Rich Rethorn, Senior Field Engineer, Instructor

Mr. Rethorn was a manager in New York Telephone for almost 29 years before joining System Studies in 1992. While Rich was with New York Telephone, he performed various duties, including splicing, installation, repair, and cable testing.

His responsibilities at System Studies involve product development, sales, installation, training and customer assistance for the New York area of Verizon (including Queens, Staten Island, Southern, Northern and Midtown Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn and Nassau). As a valuable member of the System Studies Training Staff, Rich is now responsible for conducting the many training courses that we offer in New York City and surrounding areas.



Tim Taylor, Senior Field Engineer, Instructor

After spending over 28 years with Pacific Bell, the last 20 in the cable maintenance arena, Mr. Taylor joined System Studies in mid 2001 to help with customer support and training for the SBC West and Southwestern areas. He also provides support and training for Hawaiian Telcom and Alaska Communications System.

Although he has only been with System Studies for five years, Tim brings a tremendous wealth of knowledge and management experience with him from Pacific Bell. While at Pacific Bell, Tim held the postion of General Manager of California's Sacramento North area, where he had some 650 people under his management. Prior to becoming General Manager, Tim served as Director of the San Ramon and Sacramento, California Centers, where he was responsible for all proactive cable maintenance responsibilities.
